You may have noticed that I’m not very attentive to the site lately, this is largely due to work pressures and security concerns (I was burgled twice now)
I’ve created a simple sleep tracking application so far. I think it’s quite nice, but it’s not as complete as I’d ultimately like. That said, it’s perfectly useable as it is.

I haven’t bothered creating an installer for it so far. To install, simply extract the 2 files in the archive somewhere on your windows system, and create a shortcut to the exe file.
In order to run it, you’ll need the .NET framework v1.1 installed on your machine, which you can download from here: http://www.placebo.serv.co.za/dotnetfx1033.exe (23 mb)

Notes:

When it starts, it automatically minimises to the system tray
At present there is no way to edit an item. You can either right click and delete an existing item, and recreate it. Or you can close the application and edit the xml file in the same folder as the exe
You can create new entries by either right clicking on the system tray icon, or dragging out an entry in the summary window
You delete entries by right clicking on them in the summary window
On the summary window, there’s a menu called ‘Tools’ that includes a feature I played with - testing how long it takes for you to fall asleep. It uses the dead man’s hand concept

Hey, fantastic idea for an application. I’d like to start using it.

The problem is, when I mouse-over the grid that says March 7th, i get an unhandled exception. Here’s the details:

Thanks for the feedback.
I tried it, and you’re right… there’s a problem if the xml file doesn’t yet exist.
The quick fix for you is to close the program, create a file in the same directory as the EXE called ‘SleepLog.xml’ and put the following in it :

<sleeplog />

Then open the program and right click on the system tray. Click ‘Report how I feel’ and choose whatever you like.
Things should be fine from there.

I’ll fix it properly soon. Other things that bug me about it that I’ll get to:
- Can’t delete ‘feel’ entries
- Doesn’t automatically display the current day unless there is an entry on it. Workaround = right click on system tray and go ‘Report how I feel’. Pick whatever you like.
- Can’t edit entries. Workaround = close application and edit the SleepLog.xml file. Make sure you don’t break the xml syntax or it won’t run correctly.

Let me know any more bugs or features that you’d appreciate fixed/applied
